Yazminah’s House, Inc.
Empowering Opportunity Through Education, Licensing, and Community Support
Yazminah’s House, Inc., founded in 2025, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to professional education and economic opportunity within the natural hair industry.
Yazminah's Story
Yazminah was born in Richmond, Virginia. She was a bright, curious spirit from the very beginning. Even as a baby, she was drawn to anything electronic, fascinated by how things worked and how they connected people. Life asked more of her than most at an early age. Weakness in her pupils led to multiple surgeries before she turned ten, yet she carried on with quiet strength and determination that never defined her limits, only her resilience.
She had a gift for language that felt almost effortless. Words came to her like music, and she understood their power to bridge worlds. There was a time I imagined her interpreting on a global stage, helping nations understand one another. But her heart led her somewhere even more personal. She chose to use her voice and her gift at Mount Sinai Hospital, standing beside patients who could not speak English, making sure they were heard, understood, and cared for with dignity.
Her journey wasn’t easy. She attended a school for the deaf, blind, and those facing communication challenges, adapting again when she lost her sight. Still, she never lost her vision, the kind that lives in the heart. Fluent in both Spanish and Mandarin, she built connections where others saw barriers. She gave people comfort in moments of fear. She made the world feel a little less lonely.
She was the kind of young woman who had so much more to give, so much more life to live, so many more lives to touch. Gone far too soon, yet her impact remains in every person she helped, every word she translated, every moment she chose compassion.
Her story is not only one of loss, but of purpose, courage, and a quiet brilliance that will never fade.
Our Programs
Yazminah’s House, Inc. delivers community-centered programs designed to educate, license, and uplift individuals at every stage of their journey:
Advanced training for licensed natural hair professionals focused on scalp health, hair science, and safe color techniques to support continued education and career growth.
Empowering youth through self-care education, confidence building, and exposure to career pathways in the beauty and wellness industry.
Providing culturally responsive hair care education and resources that promote healthy practices and connect individuals to training and licensure opportunities.
Collaborating with trusted community organizations, including First Corinthian Baptist Church, to deliver workforce training and access to the New York State Natural Hair License.
We also offer training that leads to the New York State 300-hour Natural Hair License. Both nonprofit and educational programs operate at:
Riverside Church
91 Convent Avenue
New York, NY 10027
Why This Work Matters
In New York State, anyone charging for natural hair services must hold a Natural Hair License to operate legally. However, access to certified training programs is limited, creating a significant barrier to employment and entrepreneurship.
Natural Hair Course NYC fills a critical gap as the only school of its kind in Manhattan offering training for this license. Yazminah’s House, Inc. expands this access through financial support, mentorship, and community-based education.
Community Impact
Central Harlem is a richly diverse community with many multicultural families in need of accessible, culturally affirming education. Through mentorship and hands-on training, Yazminah’s House, Inc. helps youth and adults build confidence, embrace self-love, and develop a positive self-image.
By supporting underfunded programs and reducing barriers to licensure, we help create clear pathways to entrepreneurship, workforce entry, and long-term economic stability, combating unemployment one opportunity at a time.
Our Growing Needs
